At MCHA, we have held major tournaments and events across the calendar which we regularly release at the year’s onset.
We pride ourselves in being one of the best hosts across the country in international and national tournaments, giving teams a taste and test of what Mombasa County has to offer with respect to Hockey first and foremost and the culture within its people.
MCHA Tournaments give an opportunity to the teams in Mombasa County and the people and fans to view first hand what teams from across the country have to offer, local clubs get to showcase their skills and compete first hand on a national level and gauge themselves
Some of the tournaments hosted/organised include:
MCHA boasts to being the pioneer county with a regional league made up of teams from affiliate clubs and high schools. This is all in efforts to create competitive teams at national level while creating awareness on Field Hockey as a sport across the Mombasa County. The affiliate clubs include; Daikyo Heroes H.C, Mombasa Sports Club, Mombasa West, Mvita XI and Swans.
A 2 day event, held in the month of June, for the first time had cash awards in 2023, current winners are Nairobi Sikh and runners up are Deep State PNU
Hosted in support of the MCHA Affiliates, a 2 day hockey extravaganza, cycles around the proposed hosting teams/affiliates in MCHA to assist them raise funds for their club running, held every month of October, either the weekend of 10th or 20th to coincide with one of the Kenyan public holidays.
Annually the MCHA organizes a Junior U13, U11 Boys and Girls tournament that works towards ensuring that hockey as a sport reaches the grassroots level and players engage in the sport at an early age before moving into high schools and subsequently Clubs of choice in the future. This initiative has been running for the past 6 years except during the Covid-19 period and has been held at Mombasa Sports Club, Aga Khan Academy and Braeburn with schools and players coming from as far as Kisumu, Kwale, Nairobi and Kilifi to grace the tournament.
Masters Tournament – Mombasa Series
Recently introduced, a 2 day leg within the Masters Series held in Mombasa. The Masters Series is a tournment for players who are aged above 40 and 35 years for men and ladies respectively
Coastal towns of Diani, Mombasa, Kilifi, Malindi and Lamu being home to Kenya’s prestine beaches has primed themselves to host an inaugral beach hockey tournament in order to grow towards the Beach games that are quickly developing into an Olympic recognised sport.
